Obituary for Ritchie 'Flash' Smith

Ritchie 'Flash' Smith age 60, of 859-D McMath Mill Road, Americus, died Monday evening, September 29, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held graveside at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Lebanon Cemetery. Reverend Donald Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel at 142 Southland Road in Americus and at other times at his home at 859-D McMath Mill Road in Americus. Ritchie was born July 18, 1954 in Sumter County, Georgia and was the son of Hazel Hobgood Smith and Harrison “Sonny” Smith Jr. He was a 1973 graduate of Plains High School, Plains, GA. Ritchie was a loving husband, a caring father and “poppy” to his grandchildren. In addition to farming for many years, he also worked at Wolf Creek Golf Club and has been with Mulcoa/Imerys for 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Penny Smith of Americus; three daughters Jennifer Smith of Atlanta, Julie Smith of Plains and Holly Mallette of Americus as well as three sons and a daughter-in-law Cary Mallette of Americus, Mack Jones of Thomasville, and also Chris (Kelly) Jones of Thomasville; a grandson Konner Jones; his mother Hazel Hobgood Smith of Americus as well as his two brothers Jody ( Joyce) Smith of Warner Robins and Wesley Smith of Americus; a Mother-in-Law, Wylene Manning of Naples, FL ; two Brothers-in-Law Mike Manning of Naples, FL , Robert Gresham of Atlanta as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Harrison “Sonny” Smith, Jr. in 1996. Honorary Pallbearers include Darrell Hobgood, Gene Hobgood, Rob Jones, Homer Caine, David Smith, Chris Ward and Chuck Payne.
