Obituary for Dorothy Gwendolynn Grant

Dorothy Grant of Titusville Florida passed from this life August 12, 2021. Dorothy was born June 4, 1930 in Moultrie, Georgia to Robert and Alpha Underwood. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hamilton Grant. Dorothy is survived by son Ralph, grandson Jason (Kristine), granddaughters Kimberly Rego (Nicholas) and Michelle Kafka (Pierce), great grandson Henry and great granddaughter Claire.
Dorothy worked in banking for most of her life rising to Vice President of the Florida National Bank in Titusville before retiring. She was a tireless worker and meticulous in all facets of her work.
Over the last 6 years Dorothy was afflicted with dementia and lived with Hamilton at an Assisted Living facility where Hamilton visited her daily and helped in her care when he could. The love between them was apparent even thru the fog of dementia. The tireless workers commented often how you don’t see a love like that often.
Dorothy and Hamilton were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Titusville and loved to listen to the old hymns and commented often of how they shored their faith even in the difficult times that life can present.
As Mom’s end neared the Hospice nurse told me a story of an event that happened just a day before Mom passed. Mom had been in and out of consciousness and the nurse was taking her vitals and talking with her to let Mom know she was there. As the nurse was finishing her work, Mom opened her eyes and the fog of dementia lifted and Mom said “Did you hear what he said?” and then lapsed back into unconsciousness. All I can figure is either God or Dad or both said it was time.
Dorothy and Hamilton enjoyed being with his grandkids in their activities and all 3 of them followed Hamilton’s footsteps to Florida State which made him very proud. Hamilton and Dorothy moved to Titusville in 1966 but never lost their love for their native Georgia and returned often for visits with family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
Dorothy will be buried alongside Hamilton at the Hardin-Freeman family cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia in the Georgia clay they both loved so much. As Dad once said, on resurrection morning when I wake up, I want to be around people I know and love.
