Obituary

Joseph Larry Head, Sr. died August 31, 2023, at the age of 76 in Americus, Georgia. 

Born on June 17, 1947, Larry was one of four children born to Franklin and Louise Head at Americus Hospital.  Mr. Head was a third-generation Sumter County Farmer and a member of the Young Farmers.  Mr. Head raised his family on the family farm between Americus and Leslie.  He served his country in the Army Reserve and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. 

Mr. Head leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Anne Gay Head; daughter, Diane (Michael) White; son Joseph (Michele) Head; granddaughters, Anna Marie (Will) Harmon, Raena White, Lucy White, Lily Head; sister, Marie (Hollis) Hale; brother, Hal (Freida) Head. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janice Duke.

Graveside service will be held Sunday, September 3 at 3 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends in the sanctuary at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Greg Hancock Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the “Benevolence Fund” at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1256 Hwy. 280 East, Americus, Georgia 31709.
