Gentry Tillman Obituary

As a lifelong resident of Americus, Gentry lived, attended school and worked in Sumter County. He was the youngest of five children and cherished his extensive family. He was devoted to and proud of his family, especially his son, Jordan. He enjoyed history, notably Viking lore, and genealogy, researching his ancestors and family heritage. He was an avid reader of non-fiction, from sports and science to current events and political science.

Gentry was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan, enjoyed playing football in high school and delighted in watching his own son play. Some of his most satisfying moments as a father came as he watched his son play hard on the football field. Gentry proudly cheered him on in everything he did.

Gentry’s command of the procurement and sales world was enhanced by his love of people, loyalty, and his outstanding work ethic. Working with Gentry left many respecting his knowledge, his dedication to his craft, and his prowess in business negotiations. He was an asset to his employers and most people would say that they came away with something more important than a product; they came away with a friend.

As a Georgia-born and bred southern boy, Gentry loved hunting, camping, and hiking through the lands around him and felt a special kinship doing this with his son and close friends. He felt that being in nature helped to both calm him and rejuvenate his spirit. He cherished spending time with family especially his brother and sisters. There were many happy and lasting memories made around his mom and dad’s table, sharing family meals, and talking deep into the night regarding life’s most important questions that generally revolved around whether Georgia was going to win another bowl game.
