David Smith Obituary

David Bryant Smith joined his Heavenly Father on March 31, 2022. He passed at the Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia surrounded by his family and friends after a brief battle with cancer.

David was born January 2, 1953 in Tallahassee, FL and was the son of the late Daniel Horace Smith, I and Barbara Nell Smith. David was preceded in death by his parents and his companion in life, Donna Everett Smith of Americus, GA and his beloved dogs, Dixie and Dale.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons; Travis Smith of Tampa, FL and Zach Lesmerises of Sarasota, FL along with two step-daughters; Jenn Smith and Julie Smith, both of Americus; his brother Daniel Horace Smith, II of Tampa, FL as well as a number of nieces; Jennifer Smith McIntyre and Sara Wells (Jon); nephews; Michael Minellino (Kari) and Kristopher Smith; and cousins; Karen Petraitis (George), Cheryl Smith Weiner, Stephen Smith (Vicki), Edward Pryor Smith, Linda Jean Olsen, Mary Leah Williams (Ronny) along with many great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his second mother, Betty Smith Gregory of Tampa, FL.

Next to his family, David’s legacy extends to the business that he built and franchised in Florida and Georgia, Grout Busters. His son Travis and niece Jennifer will continue the business with their franchises. David was also a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Plains Baptist Church. David loved to deer hunt, golf, bowl, watch Nascar, restore classic cars and tractors, and cheer on the Florida Gators. For David, life was “mo betta” with the companionship of a Bassett Hound. When he wasn’t hunting, preparing food plots or golfing, he thoroughly enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was generous beyond measure and touched many lives, in many places in his 69 years.

During his years hunting in a deer club in Georgetown, Georgia he found his little piece of heaven-on-earth on 70-acres off Highway 82 in Morris, GA which he lovingly called the New Dixie Reserve and where he pursued his search for Sasquatch.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Plains Baptist Church and a second remembrance service will be held in Tampa at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials and donations be made to the Plains Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 189, Plains, GA 31780.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
