Virginia Maggie Hart, age 75, of 2001 S. Lee St., died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Saturday, March 30, 2013. A native of Americus, she was born September 5, 1937, the daughter of the late Edgar and Essie Taylor Mercer. Mrs. Hart was a seamstress at the Tog Shop and also worked in foster care for over thirty years. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 10:00 AM at Cheek Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. David Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cheek Memorial Sunday School Class. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Hooper of Plains, Phyllis and Neal Highnote of Americus and Lynn and John Hyde of Leslie; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Kimberly Hart, Jr. of Texas; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Jones of Americus and Patsy and Bill Nobles of Petal, MS; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Shirley Mercer of New Iberia, LA. and Bill Mercer of Sylvester; thirteen grandchildren, Michelle Hall, Amanda Crawford, Wendy McGrother, Renee Hart, Jason McGrother, Sam McCormick, James Hart III (Buck), Charlie Hooper, Jr., Shannon Hooper, Stephanie Carswell, Kerrie Thomas, Leslie Cooksey and T.J. Highnote; and also a number of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hart, Sr. in 2001; two sisters, Betty Jean Mercer and Martha Rushing; and four brothers, Louis Mercer, Edward Mercer, Clyde Mercer and Buddy Burg.
