Mr. Virgil Ronald Adkins, age 83, of 253 Ga. Hwy 27 E, Americus, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at his residence. A native of Cordele, Mr. Adkins was born July 6, 1927 the son of the late Virgil Paul and Irma Kate Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a Master Sergeant serving during WW II and the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and also was a member of the VFW. Funeral services will be held July 17, 2010, at 10:00 AM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Todd Lowery officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, July 16, 2010 at 253 Ga. Hwy 27 E., Americus, from 6 until 8 PM. Pall bearers include Brandon Miles, Ben Miles, Winn Marchbanks and Christopher Wright. Adkins of Americus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Miles of Warner Robins, Paula Williams of Americus, Brenda and Julian Wells of Buena Vista and Lora and Jeff Wiseman of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Doris Adkins of Pearl, MS.; a sister, Wynelle Jerde of Wilmot, WI; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
