Sidney Ray Scoggins, 67, of Americus died Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1950 in Americus to the late Willard Ostelle Scoggins and Sara Louise Bray Scoggins. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus, a U.S. Navy veteran, and an avid fisherman. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Thompson, of Elyria, OH; son, Cole Scoggins of Americus; and three sisters: Beth Giddens of Buford, Jean Bradley of Charlotte, NC, and Murline Wellons of Americus. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Ashley Thompson, Justin Thompson, Hali Thompson, Joshua Thompson, and Jacob Thompson; and two great-grandchildren: Emelie Thompson and Kalle Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Lucky Scoggins and Rodney Scoggins. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
