Obituary

Mrs. Sara Gene West Faircloth, age 84, of 148 North Spring Creek Rd., Cobb, Ga., died November 30, 2009 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. A native of Sumter County, Mrs. Faircloth was born July 24, 1925, the daughter of James Terrell West, Sr. and Ethel Elizabeth Graddick West. Mrs. Faircloth was a lifetime member of DeSoto United Methodist Church where she was the choir director, youth director and Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Faircloth was a graduate of Andrew College and the University of Georgia and taught Home Economics at Andrew College and Union High School. Mrs. Faircloth also was the Director of Food Services in the Lee County school system for eighteen years before retiring in 2000. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the DeSoto United Methodist Church with Ms. Ginny West Case and Rev. Scott Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the DeSoto Cemetery. Pallbearers include Andy Stanford, Mike Soderman, Matt Kennedy, Brandon Mercer, Scott Poole, Steve James, Harold Spurlin and Jim West III. Ask to serve as honorary pallbearers are the Lee County School Food Service employees. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 6 to 8 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the DeSoto United Methodist Church, PO Box 160, DeSoto, Ga. 31743. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Ed Faircloth, Sr. of Cobb; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lynn and Howard Stanford of Leslie and Lissa Faircloth of Cobb; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Ruth Faircloth, Jr. of Fort Valley; five grandchildren, Tara Poole, Carey Soderman, Betsy Kennedy, Julie Mercer and Andy Stanford; three great grandchildren, Case Poole, Payton Soderman and Baylee Soderman. Memorials: DeSoto United Methodist Church, PO Box 160, DeSoto, Ga. 31743. Cemetery: DeSoto Cemetery Visitation: Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 6 to 8 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel Service: Friday, December 4, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the DeSoto United Methodist Church with Ms. Ginny West Case and Rev. Joe Bateman officiating
