Sara Eleanor Smith Murray, age 94, died Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A native of Lee County, she was born February 18, 1915, the daughter of Evan Thomas and Leila Teressa Smith. She was an elementary school teacher at Thompson School and in Marshallville. She was a member of Plains United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at Plains United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends between the hours of 6 and 8 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family has requested that memorials be made to Plains United Methodist Church, 305 W Church St., Plains, GA 31780 or The League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Sherrill Murray House of Americus and Evanne Murray DiGenti and Victor of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Charles Murray and Elaine of Macon; a brother and sister-in-law, Julian and Joyce Smith of Americus; 10 grandchildren, Angela and Mark Westra, Allen and Libby House, Greg DiGenti, Brian and Joy DiGenti, Nicole and Rob McCormack, Melissa and John Borland, Beth and Cliff Stanfield, Lauren and Bruce Jongeneel, Marci and Bruce Butler and Jessica and Brandon Denton. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Drue Parker Murray, Jr. and her son, Drue Parker Murray, III.
