Sara Childress Roberts, age 83, of 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, died July 25, 2011, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A native of Cuthbert, she was born August 6, 1927 the daughter of the late Carlton Clyde and Jessie Melton Childress. Mrs. Roberts lived most of her life in Americus, was a member of First Baptist Church and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a Sunday School teacher and owner of Roberts Jewelry. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Americus with Dr. Mike Flowers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 27, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the residence of Gary Roberts, 109 Birch Way, Americus. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 221 S Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Loran Strickland of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sharon Roberts of Americus; two brothers, Buddy Childress of Covington and Billy Childress of Cuthbert; four grandchildren, Michael Strickland of Americus, Amber Roberts of Americus, Kelli Roberts of Vidalia and Jenny and Chris Morris of Travelers Rest, SC.
