Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Mathis Rhinehart, age 94, died early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2008 at Sumter Regional Hospital. A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Rhinehart was born October 8, 1913, a daughter of the late Harry J. Mathis and Susie Self Mathis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wesley Rhinehart. Mrs. Rhinehart was a member of the American Legion for over fifty years and a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge. She was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Greater Vision Baptist Church with Rev. Stacy Penland officiating. Burial will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, August 21 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. At other times friends may call at the residence of Deborah and Wayne Barfield, 117 Robin Hill Drive. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Survivors include nieces and their husbands, Hollie and Duane Layfield of Americus, Nancy and Bob Sibley, Patti and Harold Pace, Deborah and Wayne Barfield of Americus and Gail and Ricky Archer; nephews and their wives, Lurell and Maxine Mathis, Lowell and Vickie Mathis and Henry and Linda Mathis; nephew-in-law, Shelby Momon; brother-in-laws, Tom Rhinehart and Dick Rhinehart and a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives. A sister, Leona Johnston, a brother, Andrew Mathis and a niece, Dorzell Momon preceded her in death. Memorials: Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
