Obituary

Roger Thigpen, 66, of Petal, MS, died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He was a member of Petal Harvey Baptist Church, a graduate of Waycross High School and The University of Georgia School of Forestry. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Loraine J. Thigpen of Petal, MS; a daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Toby LeRoy of Raleigh, NC; and two sons and a daughter-in-law: James Thigpen of Biloxi, MS, and Morgan and Megan Thigpen of Cairo. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, James and Rosemary Thigpen of Gainesville; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and John King of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren: Judith LeRoy, Nancy Thigpen, Mia Thigpen, and Andrew LeRoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verrille G. "Ace" Thigpen and Catherine L. Thigpen. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251 or to The Forward Campaign at Petal Harvey Baptist Church, 600 South Main, Petal, MS 39465. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
