Obituary

Robert Roy Lee Roland Mr. Robert Roy Lee Roland, age 84, of 949 Dan Green Rd., DeSoto, died Sunday, September 19, 2010. A native of Tifton, Mr. Roland was born July 15, 1926, the son of Walter Eras and Alice Day Roland. Mr. Roland served in the US Navy during World War II and was a member of DeSoto United Methodist Church where he was church treasurer for 25 years. He retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service as Postmaster and was also the Lee County Tax Assessor for 18 years. He loved genealogy and was a loving husband and father. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 10:00 AM at DeSoto United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Bateman and Sonny Burt officiating. Burial will follow at DeSoto Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers are Shannon Roland, Scott Hilgendorf, Will Rees, Harold Spurlin, Howard Stanford, Jr. , and Steve James. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 21, 2010, from 6 until 8 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to DeSoto United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 160, DeSoto, Ga. 31743. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Faye Roland of DeSoto; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Murray Powell of DeSoto; two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Nancy Roland of DeSoto and Dennis and Debbie Roland of Leesburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Coleman Haynes of Baxley; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
