Obituary

Mr. Richard D. Hewitt, age 74, died May 21, 2009 at St. Marys Hospice House in Athens. He was a native of Cayuga County, New York, a graduate of Moravia High School in 1952 and North Carolina State University in 1957. Mr. Hewitt was retired from the Tog Shop where he was employed from 1971 until 1994, serving as president from 1977 until September 1994 and remained on the Board of Directors until it closed in 2006. Mr. Hewitt was active in the U.S.Army from 1960 to 1963, most of which was served in Italy. He and his wife enjoyed travels to the Caribbean, Mexico and Ireland, but especially loved Italy, returning on four occasions. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday June 6, at Calvary Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hewitt of Americus; children, Brian and Joe Hewitt of Winder, Steve and Deborah Hewitt Banks and grandsons, William and Alex Banks of Brunswick.
