Paul Douglas Toms, Sr. Paul Douglas Toms, Sr., age 58, of 179 Irene Dr., died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Saturday evening, December 29, 2012. A native of Americus, Mr. Toms was born January 29, 1954, the son of the late George Paul Toms and surviving mother, Katie Bell Toms. Mr. Toms was a retired Battalion Chief with Americus Fire and Emergency Services. He was a state fire training officer and a member of the Fire Chiefs Association. He loved riding his motorcycle, scuba diving and traveling. He loved his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Gen-Gen". Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Americus with Rev. Tommy McConnell officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 1, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Pall Bearers include the Americus Fire Department. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald, House Charities Inc., 26345 Network Place, Chicago, IL 60673-1263 or to Children's Miracle Network, Benefiting Children's Health, 1405 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30322-1062. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathie Hall Toms of Americus; his mother, Katie Bell Toms of South Carolina; a daughter, Tabitha Toms Johnson of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Douglas ("DJ") and Leila Toms, Jr. of Americus; a sister, Loretta Haselden of South Carolina; four grandchildren, William Toms, Chet Toms, Kaylee Johnson and Atalie Johnson; several nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Peaches Rose Toms.
