Mr. Olin Witherington, age 96, of 958 Felder St., Americus, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. A native of Laurens County, Mr. Witherington was born April 23, 1913, the son of R.E. and Lola Witherington. Mr. Witherington came to Americus in 1946 after serving three years in the 199th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Mr.Witherington was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and also a member of the Christmas Tree Growers Association. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Americus with Rev. Keith Parks and Rev. Rusty Mauldin officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel, and at other times at 958 Felder St, Americus. Serving as pallbearers are Clayton Witherington, Chris Witherington, Stephen Crawford, Barry Blount, Mike Byrd and Victor J. Wanner. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of First Baptist Church and the Mens Bible Sunday School Class. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dale Witherington of Americus, Olin and Sherry Witherington, Jr. of Americus and Donald Alan and Bonnie Witherington of Savannah; two sisters, Willifred Page of Dublin and Marynell Weaver of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Clayton Witherington of Americus, Laura Cowart of Ellabell, Brooke Gordy of Pooler, Chris and wife Elizabeth Witherington of Savannah and Stacy and husband Stephen Crawford of Savannah. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. Mr. Witherington was preceded in death by his wife, Gwyndolyn Guest Witherington.
