Newton Lawrence Callier Jr. of Americus passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the age of 83.
Newton was born in Talbotton, Georgia, on December 11, 1941. He was the son of the late Newton Lawrence Callier Sr. and Ruth Turner Callier Snipes.
Newton was born and raised on a farm in Schley County, Georgia. His strong work ethic began as a teenager when he plowed fields with a mule and plow. At Champion Home Builders, Newton both built and delivered mobile homes. He retired as a supervisor at Kings Custom Builders at the age of 70.
His oil and acrylic paintings highlighted Newton’s creative and artistic side. He enjoyed architecture and design. As a jack of all trades, if you needed something repaired, he could fix it. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating. Not only did he enjoy building and flying model airplanes, he was also a pilot of several planes. He was a race car diver, to the dismay of his mother, and won several racing trophies.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Roslyn Callier, Elizabeth Callier, and Carolyn Callier, and a grandson, Thomas Callier.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Callier of Americus, three children, Janet Masters of Americus, Michael Callier, and Lawrence Callier of Ellaville, and a brother Charlie Snipes (Michael) of Columbus.
Other survivors include a grandson, Brandon Callier, and granddaughters Vicki Goodman, Lauren Callier, and Kristen Green. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Pamela Dumas and Anita Lawrence, and step grandsons, Aaron and Danny Wallace, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be dearly missed by everyone who loved him.
