Obituary

Merl James "Jim" Seawright, age 74, of 111 Cedar Ridge, Americus died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Born in Pavo, GA on April 26, 1939, he was the son of the late James Otis and Lorene Evelyn Rentz Seawright. Jim grew up in Port St. Joe, FL. He served in the United States Navy and retired after 22 years of service. He moved to Americus from Perry, GA in 1996. Jim was a member of Williams Road Church of Christ. He was a true Christian man; a kind and compassionate, caring person. He loved his God, his family, his church family, and his country. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Williams Road Church of Christ with Minister Keith Wishum officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the family residence, 111 Cedar Ridge. Pallbearers will be J.R Helms, Michael Luten, David Luten, Ronald Singley, Tommy McCurley, and Jerome Kirkland. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Adult 1 Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Raintree Village, Inc., The Children's Home, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, GA 31601-2105 or Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch, 5671 GA Hwy. 122E, Hahira, GA 31632. Survivors include his wife, Joann Booth Seawright of Americus; three stepsons and step daughter-in-law, Billy and Karen Barrett of Americus, David Barrett of Columbus, and Tim Barrett of Roswell; one sister, Janice Rupert of Port St. Joe, FL; one brother, Melvin Seawright of Dothan, AL; two step grandchildren, Audrey and John Teate of Americus and Ty Barrett also of Americus. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
