Obituary

Max Leon Parker, age 79, of 245 Highway 27 East, Americus, died at his residence Monday, June 27, 2011. A native of Americus, Mr. Parker was born May 5, 1932, the son of the late Eston and Lydia Patrick Parker. Mr. Parker was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, the MB Council Lodge # 13 F & AM, the American Legion and the Federal Retired Employees Association. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and Air Force Reserve. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Golden and Muff Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pall Bearers include Smitty Eason, Al Eason, Reggie Folsom, Wayne Parker, Andrew Arnold and Joey Whitaker. Honorary Pall Bearers include the Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church, Al Parker and Marshal Welch. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the family residence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 846 Lane Store Rd., Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jewell Parker of Americus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Edd Anthony of Americus, Pam and Scott Whitaker of Americus and Kathy Arnold of Americus; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jan Parker of Americus; a brother, Calvin Parker of Cobb; a sister, Lois Arnott of Leesburg and seven grandchildren, Bryan Parker, Parker Anthony, Joey, Melissa and Casey Whitaker and Andrew and Alex Arnold. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Parker and Eston Parker and a sister, Juanita Hughes. Mr. Parker also had some special lifetime friends, Muff Martin, Kenneth Morris and Roland Satterfield. Memorials: Bethel Baptist Church, 846 Lane Store Rd., Americus, Ga. 31709.
