Max DeVane, age 86, of Americus died Tuesday evening, April 14, 2015, at Perfect Care. A native of Nashville, GA, he was born March 16, 1928, the son of the late William E. DeVane and Mamie Otheia Jeans DeVane. He was a member of Civitans, the Fair Association, Ambassadors of Georgia Power, and Central Baptist Church. Max was an engineer at Georgia Power, where he was employed for 43 years. He was a member of the Merchant Marines, a branch of the Coast Guard, and also a veteran of World War II. He was a loving husband, father and step-father. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, 2015, at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Private burial will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lois DeVane of Americus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Deriso of Marietta, Janice and Ron Ridgeway of Atlanta, Becky and Dick Rainey of Atlanta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Venessa DeVane of Swainsboro, and Doug and Beth Holloway of Leslie; a sister, Mary Frances Branch of Tifton; as well as eight grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
