Mary Claire Thompson, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.
Born on July 10, 1928, in Parrott, Georgia, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Theo and Carrie Mae Dale. She lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Mary dedicated many years of service to Americus High School, where she worked faithfully and formed lasting relationships with colleagues and students alike. She was known for her warm spirit, steady presence, and strong work ethic.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sanders C. Thompson, Jr.; her son, Larry Thompson; her brother, Theo Dale (Buster); and her sister, Doris Usry.
She is survived by her son, Sanders C. Thompson, III (Butch); her daughter, Brenda De Vane; her grandchildren, Heather Netrow, Marvin De Vane III (Trey), Hollie Taylor, and Jason Daxton Thompson; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Cason Cail, Devan Cail, Ginni Lee, Maci De Vane, Gage De Vane, Sloan Taylor, and Laurel Taylor.
Mary enjoyed simple pleasures in life. She loved camping, working puzzles, and tending to her garden.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Melinda Davis and all the staff members of Section 1 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center and Deacon Bob Beachum from First Baptist Church in Americus for the loving care and compassion shown to Mary during her time there.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
