Mrs. Mary Helen Everett, age 81, of 2124 US Highway 280 W, Villa #6, Plains, GA died Saturday evening, June 11, 2011 at The Sumter Retirement Village in Plains surrounded by family and friends, among those her two best friends, her cat Bella and Evelyn McDonald of Plains. Funeral Services will be held graveside at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Lebanon Cemetery. Reverend Don Wilson will officiate. Mrs. Everett was born May 29, 1930 in Sumter County, GA and was the daughter of Virgie Mae and Robert Paul. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Everett was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Eck Everett in 1992 and a brother Ferrell Paul. She was a housewife, loving mother, and nanny. She also worked at Manhattan Shirt Company for 20 years. She was a member of Plains Baptist Church, the Bethany Sunday School Class, PALS and Homemakers of Plains and her favorite pastime was attending gospel sings at The Barn in Andersonville. Survivors include three daughters and two son-in-laws; Carol & Randy Gosa of Smithville, Elaine and Willie Arnett of Cordele, and Donna E. Smith of Americus; one brother and sister-in-law Lamar & Barbara Paul; and granddaughters Tammi Payton, Jennifer Smith, Kim Umphurs, Julie Smith; and three great-grandchildren Ashley Ethridge, Jessica Chambers, and Dru Umphurs as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, June 13, 2011 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus and at other times, Villa #6 at the Sumter Retirement Village in Plains. Honorary Pallbearers are the PALS Club of Plains and the Bethany Sunday School Class of Plains Baptist Church.
