Mary Anne Warnell Thomas, age 80, of 133 Taylor Street. Americus, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. She has been a residence of Americus since 1956. A native of Mount Vernon, New York, she was born September 14, 1934 the daughter of the late Willis Braxton Warnell of Cairo and Mary Frances Wright of Jackson. She was an honorary member of the Junior Service League. In the past, Mrs. Thomas was active with the Sumter Players. She was also active in the Historic Preservation Society. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel . The service will be officiated by family members. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sumter Players at P.O. Box 154, Americus, GA 31709 or a charity of your choice. Survivors include three daughters; Mary Frances Thomas (Mimi) of Berkeley, CA, Anne Camp Thomas of Americus and Elizabeth T. Cheek (James) of Leesburg; two sons, Russell Thomas, III (Angie) of Americus and Braxton Thomas of Americus. Eight grandchildren, Emily Anne Strickland, Sara Beth Wolcott, Mary Frances Thomas, Mestewal Thomas, Esubalow Thomas, James Thomas Cheek, Margaret L. Cheek and Elizabeth Anne Chaplin ; and three great-grandchildren , Samantha Anne Strickland, James Titus Cheek and Jethro Thomas Cheek. Cemetery: Private burial at a later date
