Martin William Smirthwaite, Sr., 62, of Americus, GA, passed away on February 8, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on February 25, 2017 at Francis Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park, GA. Pastor Steve Hill of Grace Community Church in Americus, GA will be officiating. Martin was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England on February 17, 1954. He moved to the United States as a young boy with his mother, stepfather, and siblings. Martin was married to, and loved, many women throughout his life, having children with three of them. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life including sales, construction, hotel management, and manufacturing quality control. He was a larger-than-life personality who was loved by anyone who met him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his church family. Martin is survived by brother, Mervyn Callahan (Donette); brother, Maxwell Callahan (Terry); sister, Mary Ellen Conway; brother, Mark Callahan (Lisa); daughter, Jennifer Long (Nick); daughter, Amy Penman (David); son, Marty Smirthwaite (Andrea); son, Stewart Smirthwaite (Sally); and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Valerie Pafford.
