Lewis Hayward Morris

October 25, 1939 – August 11, 2025

Mr. Lewis Hayward Morris, age 85, of Americus, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Born in Kite, Georgia, he was the son of the late Hudson C. Morris and Lillie Mae Morris. He was a proud graduate of South Georgia Technical College with an Electronics Degree and repaired televisions until his retirement in 1973.

A devoted servant of the Lord, Mr. Morris was a faithful member of Williams Road Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 30 years. He and his wife, Nancy Morris, were foster parents in Sumter County for 38 years, caring for a total of 70 children in addition to raising their four biological and four adopted children.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Morris. Three sons, Vic Morris (Charlotte), Tony Morris (Shelly), and Howard 'J.R' Helms. Four daughters, Amy Ross (Paul), Kathy Flanigan (Andy), Sylvia Helms, and Annie Bellavia (Scott); he is also survived by his two sisters Saralyn Rowland and Erma Garrett (John); and possibly his long-lost brother Artrelle Morris.

Mr. Morris leaves behind 13 cherished grandchildren: Molly Taunton (Colton), Susie Morris, Scott Morris, Jason Ross (Karen), Jessica Ross, Will, Sophie, Evan, and Oliver Flanigan, Gabe, Hudson and Lillie Bellavia; and 7 great-grandchildren: Caroline and Avery Taunton, Everly Hughes, Joseph, Jacob, Morgan, and Marian Ross. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Meadie Morris; two brothers, Herbert Morris and Cameron Morris; one nephew, John Rowland, and a son, Michael T. Morris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williams Road Church of Christ at 110 Williams Road for the Thaxton Scholarship Fund.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 23rd at Williams Road Church of Christ in Americus GA.

A Visitation will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, August 23rd at Williams Road Church of Christ in Americus GA.
