Obituary

Mr. Jack Turner, age 71, died Wednesday morning March 18, 2009 at Sumter Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday March 20 at Rehoboth Baptist Church with Dr. Reed Crumbliss and Rev. James Beckett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Al Willis, Woody Hinton, Ken Athon, Bob Brown, Mike Ragsdale and Tracy Law. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Dr. Linda Sawyer, Mac Frost, Sarah Ann Harrod, Michael Hernandez and any DNR employees. Mr. Turner was born May 13, 1937, a son of the late Horace Curn Turner and Tonnie Bartlett Turner. He was Captain of the Cordele Law Enforcement District for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Game and Fish Division, for seventeen years and was employed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for thirty-one years. He was recognized as the 1991 Supervisor of the Year among Game and Fish Law Enforcement Supervisors. He served in the National Guard and was also a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. Mr. Turner attended St. Marys Catholic Church and Rehoboth Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 422 S Hwy 49, Americus, Ga. 31719 or to the Salvation Army, 204 Prince Street, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Dr. Jason Williams of Albany; a son and daughter-in-law, Ty and Carla Turner; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lela Bell and Lewis Wilson , Liz and Bill Turpin and Faye Knight all of Americus. Grandchildren, Hallie and Anna Lane Turner, Joshua, Cate and Madison Williams and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, H. C. Turner, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Charles Knight. Memorials: The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 422 S Hwy 49, Americus, Ga. 31719 or to the Salvation Army, 204 Prince Street, Americus, Ga. 31709.
