Obituary

Laura Kathleen "Kathi" Elliott, 69, returned to her heavenly home on May 20, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Kathi was born to the late William and Edna Sherman, in Crestview, FL on September 6, 1950. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. Kathi was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life, William "Bill" Elliott, on August 29, 1968 in Inverness, FL. Kathi helped raise both her biological child and foster children with patience, love, and humility. She taught them to read, share, and often took them on family road trips. From the very beginning, she dedicated all of her children to God. Kathi was a nurturer at heart. She was kind and loving, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. Her greatest legacy is the love and faith she shared with all of those who met her. Kathi was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Americus. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Kathi is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughters Ruth Lisa Carino and Mandy (Rob) McFarland; her grandchildren Jessica (Joshua) Kimbrough, Robbie Carino, Jasmine Carino, and Camden McFarland; her great grandchildren Phoenix and Maverick Kimbrough; her sister Dorothy Bramley and brother Robert Sherman; her brother-in-law Ricky (Teri) Elliott and sister-in-laws Debi Elliott Vaught and Janice Elliott; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, a host of long-time friends; and several foster children and their families - all born of her heart. Kathi is preceded in death by her sons Christopher Elliott and Robert Lake; her parents; her brother William Darell Sherman; and several brother and sister in-laws. Kathi will be interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted at greghancockfuneralchapel.com
