Mr. Schlekewy, age 78, of Americus, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter. A native of Webster, South Dakota, he was born on August 23, 1942 to the late Robert and Luella Schlekewy. Larry was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a former Charlotte, NC. Police officer. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He retired from Sara Lee Corporation, Institutional Food House, and Glover Foods. Funeral Services will be held at Central Baptist Church on Monday November 2, 2020 at 12:00 PM with military honors, with Dr. Brian Myers and Hugh Deloach officiating. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Pallbearers will be Brian Justice, Gavin Hicks, Greg Bell, Johnny Shiver, Ed Shattles, and John Vasbinder. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Tuesday night Bible Study Group with Bro. Hugh Deloach and the Alfred Dupree Sunday school class. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Schlekewy of Americus; one son Larry Schlekewy, Jr. of North Carolina; two daughters, Robin and her husband Greg Bell of Leslie and Martha Jo and her husband Brian Justice of Ellaville; two brothers Bob Schlekewy of Minnesota and Lon Schlekewy of Virginia; one sister Sandra Rumpza of Minnesota; seven grandchildren Alexander Schlekewy, Conner Schlekewy, Kristy & Gavin Hicks, Kayla Powell, Hudson Hawkins, Kasey Powell, and Mitch Bell; also surviving are three great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a wife Jean C. Schlekewy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Central Baptist Church 190 Upper River Road Americus, GA. 31709 or to Marine Corps League, Detachment # 750 11341 Bain School Rd. Mint Hill, NC. 28227.
