Judith Earl Thompson, age 60, of 148 Vinings Court, Rome, Georgia died Wednesday, June 26, 2013. A native of Atlanta, she was born June 18, 1953, to the late Frederick Haller and Sarah Earl Moorhead Thompson. Judy graduated from Americus High School in 1971 and Agnes Scott College in 1975. She did post graduate work in the Master of Architecture program at Georgia Tech as well as coursework at Harvard University. She received her Master's degree of Library Science from Florida State University in 1990. Judy recently retired from Berry College after twenty-two years as the reference librarian. She was a member of the Agnes Scott College Alumnae Association, Arbor Day Foundation, and attended Unity North Church in Marietta. Judy was a creative and gifted artist, sculptor, photographer and glass blower. She was passionate about Agnes Scott College, music, and books and her favorite mode of transportation was her bicycle. Judy was a kind, humble, and gentle spirit who was fiercely loyal to her friends and chosen causes. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Frederica and Neal Wellons of Hampton, GA; an aunt, Jan Moorhead of Eatonton, GA; an uncle, Robert Moorhead of Buckhead, GA; a number of cousins, and her adopted family, Susan, Lanny, Page, and Brightman Thomas. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 7 at 2:00 pm in the Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Judy Thompson Memorial Fund at Agnes Scott College, the Rome Symphony Orchestra, or the Lake Blackshear Regional Library.
