Joseph "Joey" Scott Whitaker, age 31, of 287 Newt Bailey Road, Americus went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. A native of Americus, he was born March 9, 1985, the son of Scott and Pam Whitaker. Joey was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He loved to fish, ride ATV's and enjoyed being able to make everyone smile. Joey was a loving brother and uncle and loved spending time with his nephew Chase. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Golden and Rev. Troy Fripp officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Bethel Baptist Church one hour prior to the service from 9:00 until 10:00 AM and at other times at the home of Scott and Pam Whitaker at 287 Newt Bailey Road, Americus. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 846 Lane Store Road, Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include his parents, Scott and Pam Whitaker of Americus; two sisters, Melissa Whitaker Oliver and Brent of Ellaville and Casey Whitaker of Americus; one nephew, Chase Oliver of Ellaville; a maternal grandmother, Jewell Parker of Americus; a paternal grandmother, Anetha Whitaker of Americus ; and fourteen aunts and uncles, Gary and Jan Parker, Jan and Edd Anthony, Kathy Arnold, David and Betsy Whitaker, Frank and Tricia Whitaker, Tommy and Jody Whitaker, Aimee and Phillip Hornsby, and Mary Elsie Castleberry. A number of cousins and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max Parker, Joe Whitaker and Mary Evelyn Land.
