Joel Medley Coogle, age 70, of Americus, died at his residence on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, after a long illness. He was born June 3, 1947 in Macon County, Georgia, the son of the late James Luther Coogle and Ruth Medley Coogle. As long as he was able, Joe loved working outside in his yard and doing wood-working projects. He worked in the mobile home industry in Americus, Ellaville, and Columbus. He was a loyal and devoted member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga. for over 20 years. He was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. Burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Survivors include his wife of almost 49 years, Mary Jane Johnson Coogle, of Americus; a daughter, Paige Ferdinande of Virginia Beach, VA; a son Christopher J. Coogle, and his wife Christy of Columbus, GA.; two sisters: Dixie Hale and her husband Robert, and Charlotte Coogle of Americus, and one twin brother, James L. Coogle of Kinston, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Brittany Carden of Virginia, Christopher J Coogle Jr. of Americus, and Ivy Jones of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of the Americus Fire and Emergency Services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, 6165 Billings Road Columbus, Ga. 31909 or a charity of one's choice.
