JoeAnne Beard Moore, 89, passed away on Friday August 16,2024 at her residence, Thrive Senior Living, in Augusta. She was born in Bluffton, GA to the late Roy W. Beard and Hattie Jones Beard on October 20, 1934. JoeAnne was a graduate of Miller County High School in Colquitt, GA and South Georgia College in Douglas, GA. She was a classically trained vocalist who performed as a soloist and in ensembles including the Chancel Choir at Americus First Methodist Church where she was a faithful member for over 60 years. She was a teacher throughout much of her professional life serving as an instructor at South Georgia Technical College and as a physical education teacher and substitute teacher for the Americus City Schools. She participated in the Council of Safety Chapter of the DAR in Americus attaining recognition for 50 years as an active member. After retiring she volunteered in the Sumter Regional/Phoebe Sumter Hospital Auxiliary as a Pink Lady for over 20 years.
A Visitation will be held at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 5:00-7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at First Methodist Church on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 1:30PM with Sam Morris and Rev. Daryl Brown officiating. A private burial will be held at Andersonville National Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters Rosalind Moore Gatian (Doug) of Americus, and Harriet Kay (Franky Rachels) of Lincolnton; her brother Dr. Charles Beard (Valerie) of Athens; her grandchildren Rachel Gatian McSwain (Hobson) of Americus, Roxanne M. Gatian of Americus, and Savannah Rachels of Augusta; her great-grandchildren Autumn McSwain, Zelda McSwain, and Caroline Joanne Custer and several nieces and nephews; her faithful caretakers Verna Thomas, Liz Hodges, Donna Moales and all the staff at Thrive at Augusta and Crescent Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold E. Moore, her parents Roy W. Beard and Hattie Jones Beard, her brother Roy "Buddy" Beard, and her brothers and sisters-in law Carlton Moore (Mildred) and Leon Moore (Charlene).
In Lieu of flowers the family asked for donations to be made to First Methodist Church Choir and the Sumter Humane Society.
Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
