JoAnn Virginia Flanders Plunkett, 74, of Americus died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. A native of Panama City, FL, she was born September 24, 1942 to the late Clyde Melvin Flanders and Mary Pauline Attaway Flanders. She enjoyed fishing and camping, working puzzles, and Braves baseball. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion and retired from Wal-Mart as the Pet Department Manager. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Tracy Plunkett; two sons: James Earl Plunkett and Joseph Kevin Plunkett; all of Americus. Also surviving are a sister, Shirley Flanders Ball of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers: Riley Flanders of Jacksonville, FL, and Ronald Flanders of Americus; a granddaughter, Haley Morgan Plunkett of Americus; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Nolan Plunkett; a son, Jerry Edward Plunkett; and two brothers: Clyde Melvin Flanders, Jr. and Gary Gaston Flanders.
