Jimmy Lee Hightower, Sr., age 83, of 102 Woodland Acres, died at his residence Saturday, March 30, 2013. A native of Cedartown, he was born September 29, 1929, the son of the late Lee Clifford and Eddie Madge Bryant Hightower. Mr. Hightower served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Americus. He was inducted to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1989; the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003; the Georgia Southwestern University Hall of Fame; the Americus High School Hall of Fame and received multiple state and region Coach of the Year Awards. He also was the State Champion Coach in five different sports. Mr. Hightower was the only high school coach to coach high school all stars in two sports in the same year. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Leslie City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2013, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will include sons, grandsons and son-in-law. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol L. Hightower of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Lara and Randy Hotchkiss of Macon; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sheryl Hightower of Anniston, AL, Dennis Hightower of Americus and Jim and Kelly Hightower of Clarksville, TN.; four grandchildren, Garrison Hotchkiss, Abbie Hotchkiss, Mallory Hotchkiss and Jimmy Lee Hightower, III.
