Jennette Colbert Jennings, age 90, of 522 Hancock Dr., Americus, died early this morning, December 8, 2009, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Sumter County, Mrs. Jennings was born November 13, 1919, the daughter of John Walter and Pauline Kirven Colbert. Mrs. Jennings was a dispatcher at Southerfield airport during WW II, was a singer in the Hank Dudley Band for many years and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Mrs. Jennings was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church where she was a choir member all of her adult life and also a member of the Sumter Humane Society. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Calvary Episcopal Church with Father Don Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of six and eight on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, 408 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709 or Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, Ga. 31719. Survivors include four nieces, Pie Hulsey of Avon Park, Fl., Kay Guttenberg of Americus, Anne Clary Morgan of Elersley and Alice Sollers Brown of Ellaville; two nephews, Brent Clary of Waverly Hall and Rudy Clary of Birmingham, Al. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.H. Jennings, Jr., two sisters, Evelyn Colbert Satterfield and Kathleen Colbert Clary and a brother, Walter Kirven Colbert.
