Janis Ruth Harris Barry (McLendon), 80, of Americus, died Wednesday, April 04, 2018 at her home. She was born September 6, 1937 in Byromville to the late Howell Harris and Frances Lena Mashburn Harris. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over thirty years. Involved in numerous church activities, she enjoyed singing and entertaining at church and nursing homes. She also loved to laugh and enjoyed crafting and sewing. For many years she was involved with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; and was always the first one up and the last one to go to bed. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April, 7, 2018 at Eastside Baptist Church. Officiating the service are Rev. William Hall, Rev. Damon Fountain, Rev. Sims Jones, Rev. Andy Hines, and Rev. Earl Dunmon. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, April 6, 2018 at the family residence, 136 Columbia Ave., Americus. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law: Lynn and Michael Rutland of Albany, and Anne and John Barry of Titusville, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jim and Lorraine Barry of Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Lane and Charlotte Barry of Cocoa Beach, FL; a son-in-law, Erik Beck of Americus; and a sister, Catherine Theirs of Frederick, MD. Also surviving are her dear friends, Mary and Christy Jenkins; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and many other children who called her "grandmother." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, J.D. Barry and Alvin McLendon; a daughter, Jill Beck; and a granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Morris. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.
