James Bruce Summerford, Sr., 75, of Leslie, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus. A native of Albany, he was born November 9, 1943 to the late J.B. Summerford and Bonceil Blackstock Summerford. He was a member of Albany Church of Christ and a United States Air Force Veteran. He worked as a Parts Manager for Auto Zone and loved to fish. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of twenty-one years, Rita Summerford of Leslie; two sons: Bruce Summerford, Jr. of Albany and Chad Summerford of Charlotte, NC; and two stepsons: Shawn Sharp of Leslie and Shane Sharp of Cobb. Also surviving are a sister, Juanita Long of Albany; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene & Joy Summerford of Conyers; four grandchildren: Hunter Summerford, Tyler Sharp, Ridge Sharp, and Lizzy Sharp; and a great-grandchild, Bryson Sharp. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
