James Calvin Owen, age 85, of 273 Tallent Store Rd., died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Sunday, January 8, 2012. A native of Ellaville, Mr. Owen was born November 25, 1926, the son of the late John and Idolene English Owen. Mr. Owen was retired from the US Postal Service where he was employed as a mail carrier. He served in the US Navy during WWII and also served in the National Guard for seventeen years. Mr. Owen was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, a Pilgrim with the Moose Lodge and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hugh Harbort officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include grandsons and Honorary pallbearers include Letter Carriers. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 11, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the residence of Ralph and Sheryl Norton, 709 Adderton St., Americus. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Eunice Kelly Owen of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Ralph Norton of Americus; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Marta Owen of Hunnington Beach, Cal., Steve and Michele Owen of Americus and Ferrell and Gale Owen of Ellaville; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Kate Deriso and Clifford of Atlanta; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Cemetery: Sunset Memorial Gardens
