James Ernest Mathews, 63, of Front Royal, VA, died November 7, 2011 at Winchester Medical Center. A funeral service will be Monday, November 14th, 2011, at 2:30 P. M. at Andersonville National Cemetery. Mr. Mathews was born September 14, 1948, in Montgomery, AL, son of James Cecil and Josephine Ballard Mathews. He grew up in Americus, GA and has lived in Utah, Nevada, Florida, Alabama, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He moved to Front Royal, VA in 2005. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 ½ years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he lost his leg. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. He worked on NASA's Skylab space station and the Apollo Command/Service Module. James worked on Competitive Intelligence for Booz Allen Hamilton. He was a local Boy Scout Leader for 35 years where he received various awards and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Front Royal. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; three sons James Christopher Mathews of Wilmington, DE, Michael Anthony Mathews and his wife Cambric of Pleasant Grove, UT, and Jonathan Halterman Mathews of Front Royal; a sister Sandra Jo Greene of Americus, GA; and five grandchildren Thaddeus Alexander Mathews, Estlin Winter Mathews, Azara Skye Mathews, Ellah Phoenix Mathews, and Grayson Connor Mathews.
