James “Puba” Alford, Sr., 78, of Perry, formerly of Andersonville, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at his residence.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 3rd, from 5 pm until 6 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. His funeral service will be held at 6 pm Wednesday, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Dillon officiating. The Interment service will be held at 10 AM Thursday at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors.
A native of Savannah, Mr. Alford was born to the late Julius and Irene Alford. He was a commercial truck driver, an automotive / diesel mechanic and commercial truck driving instructor at South Georgia Technical College. “Puba”, enjoyed telling stories to his children, grandchildren and anyone else that would listen. His hobbies included racing, which was a big part of his life. He also enjoyed woodworking, and ceramics. Puba was in the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessie Alford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Alford; his children: James “Scooter” Oscar Alford, Jr. and his wife Robin and Crissy Churchwell and her husband Derek; six grandchildren: Heather Grinolds (Matt), Joey Hall (Christi), Kaitlyn Brantley (Cameron), Kristen Alford (Conner Bennett), Samatha James, and Brittany Vines (Cody); twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Terry Alford (Debbie), sister, Barbara Alford; and six bonus children: Les Williams, Paul York, Stefani Young, , John Eubanks, Michael Lambert, and Nancy Howard (John); and multiple cousins.
