Mrs. Jackie Sellers, age 58, of 134 Myrtle Springs Road, died at her residence Tuesday morning, August 19, 2008. Mrs. Sellers was born January 26, 1950 in Battle Creek, MI. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, Monday, August 25, 2008 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Dr. Sam Harper officiating. The family request no flowers and that memorials may be made to Sumter Humane Society, P. O. Box 1864, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include her mother, Willidean Munn of Battle Creek, MI; her father, Walter Thunder, Sr. of Battle Creek, MI.; a daughter, Dawn Masker of Indianapolis, IN. a son, Chad Miller of Battle Creek, MI; three sisters, Laura Metzger, Karen Elkins and Kathy Clark; three brothers; Roy Thunder, John Bradley and Jim Bradley and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Sellers and a brother, Walter Thunder, Jr. Jackie has been associated with the Sumter Humane Society for eleven years serving as the Executive Director for nine years. Before serving as Executive Director, she served as the assistant Director. Her tenure at the Sumter Humane Society was marked by growth and progress. She built a committed and caring group of shelter staff, board of directors and special event volunteers. Jackie formed alliances and partnerships with Breed Rescues and shelters around the southeast and across the United States. Under her leadership, adoptions, family re-unions and transfers to rescue groups have reached an all time high. Her compassionate attitude and commitment to the animals in her care showed in all aspects of her daily life. She will be missed by her friends and colleagues. Jackie was very involved with the grief support group after her husband died. She was also a mentor in the Sumter County School system.
