Inez "Pinkie" Abbett Smith, age 88, of 301 West Glessner St., Americus, died February 22, 2010. A native of Jackson's Gap, Alabama, she was born the daughter of the late Albert Robert and Sallie Lou Patten Abbet. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus and an avid bridge player. She was a retired executive housekeeper at Sumter Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Americus. The family will recieve friends one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church. Burial will be Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 11:00 AM in Jackson's Gap, Alabama. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Betsy Hudson of Marrietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Susannah Hudson of Marrietta, Ga., Dawn Szares Stevenson of Fayetteville, Ga. and John David Hudson and family of Waikola, Hawaii; two great grandchildren, Pamela Vicente and Lily Marie Hudson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eben B. Smith, also of Americus; her daughter, Pamela Kay Hudson Szares; a brother, Robert "Jr." Abbett; a sister, Mary Lou Abbett Cliatt of New Orleans and a sister-in-law, Sydney P. Jones also of Americus.
