Obituary

Mr. Billy Barry, age 69, of 312 Pineview Drive, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Crawley, Jared Stevens, Gene Davis, Jimmy Norton, Jay Duke, Lee Revell, Wayne Gosa and J.E. Perry. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are employees of Georgia Southwestern Maintenance Department, Sumter Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Bennie Picquet, Benny Dominy, Wayne Bradley, Kline Stanfield, Paul Toms, John McChargue and Earl Dunmon. A native of Tift County, Mr. Barry was born November 11, 1939, a son of the late Bernie McClain Barry and Mary Estelle Gay Barry. He was a former police officer for the city of Plains, a volunteer with Sumter Regional Hospital Auxiliary and was retired from Georgia Southwestern State University. Mr. Barry was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served as song leader for many years. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Betty S. Barry of Americus; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Robert Horne; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Barry all of Ellaville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Barry, Bobby and Tricia Barry all of Americus, Jerry and Lynn Barry of Perry, Benny and Connie Barry of Stuart, Fl.; four grandchildren, Ben and Will Barry and Heather and Alex Horne and his mother-in-law, Thelma Satterfield. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Janice McLendon, Alvin McClendon and Eva Barry. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty McLendon and two brothers, J. D. Cemetery: Sunset Memorial Gardens Visitation: 6 to 8 pm, Friday, June 12, 2009 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Service: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Damon Fountain, Rev. William Hall and Rev. Andy Hines officiating.
