Obituary

Harold William Denney Harold William Denney, age 87, of 402 Pinecrest Dr., died at his residence Thursday, June 4, 2015. A native of Sumter County, he was born March 10, 1928, the son of the late Alex Ernest Denney and Mamie Ethel Millwood Denney. Mr. Denney served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Lay Preacher and Board of Trustees at the church. Mr. Denney was also a member of the Board of Directors at Albany Federal Employees Credit Union. Mr. Denney retired in 1990 after 31 years of employment with the postal service as a superintendent of postal operations. He loved golf, gardening, traveling and his family. He never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting people. Services will be held Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Gossett officiating. The family will receive friends at the family residence at 402 Pinecrest Dr. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, Ga. 31719. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Clarette Denney of Americus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karin and Chris Perry of Americus and Chris and Bubba Johnston of Newnan; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Darrell and June Denney of Americus, John and Lisa Denney of Rebecca and Beth Smith Denney of Vidalia; twelve grandchildren, Portia Anderson, Rene' Batay, Harold William "Will" Denney III, Doug Perry, Clare Barnett, David Johnston, Stewart Johnston, Alex Denney, Kari Denney, Brooks Hodges, Kerra Lissa Denney and Haley Wilkerson; and a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
