Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gayle Price on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Gayle was born on April 16, 1934, in Big Spring, TX, to Lewis and Anne Price. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her younger years, she kept her grandsons at her farm whenever she could. Gayle was an avid lover of animals and owned dogs, cats, and horses (and just about anything that would come into her orbit) while she lived in the country. She was also enthusiastic about staying in shape and would regularly ride her bicycle throughout Americus and Sumter County.

Over the years, Gayle was a housewife, a customer service representative at The Tog Shop, and a librarian helper at Sumter County schools, among other positions.

She spent her final years at Magnolia Manor and continued doing the things she loved all through her time there.

Gayle was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Ernie Potter. She is survived by her son, Price Potter; her adopted twins, Kim Hollifield and Kelly Potter Duenke; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Those desiring, Gayle asked that whatever you would spend on flowers, please send to your favorite charity or to one of the following: Sumter Humane Society, Communities Service Ministry, Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, Best Friends, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or UNICEF.

Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is honored to serve Gayle and her family at this time.
