Franklin Wayne Ballentine, 79, of Preston died Tuesday, May 09, 2017 at his home. A native of Jasper, AL, he was born November 20, 1937 to the late Edgar Bell Ballentine and Ruby Montgomery Ballentine Kutscher. He was a Deacon at Preston Baptist Church, a Master Mason, and a Boy Scout leader for many years. Additionally, he was a volunteer firefighter and one of the first volunteer EMTs in Webster County. He was known to many as "The Glass Man." A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Preston Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Smith and Rev. Gary Gill officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., an hour prior to the service at the church. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary King Ballentine of Preston; three daughters and son-in-law: Patricia Barnes of Columbus, Valerie and Gary Gill of Preston, and Loretta Weeks of Preston; three sisters and brother-in-law: Patty Minick of Richland, Magdalene and Raymond Moseley of DeRitter, LA, and Marylon Ayers of Richland; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Edward and Ruth Ballentine of Hiram, Richard Ballentine of Elberton, and Jerry and Rebecca Ballentine of Acworth. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Carlie Rooks, Lindsey Abercrombie, and Jordan Clemens; and two great-grandchildren: Josey Clemens and Zoe Abercrombie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
