November 8, 1926 – October 14, 2018
"Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, sing his mercy and his grace, in the mansions bright and blessed, He'll prepare for us a place" Evelyn F. Mays, 91, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Magnolia Manor in Americus. She was born November 8, 1926 in Bear Creek, AL to the late Walter G. Frederick and Nellie Lauderdale Frederick. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. With her passing, a great void will be felt by so many. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Williams Road Church of Christ in Americus with Keith Wishum and Jack Frederick officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus. Being a founding member of the Church of Christ in Americus, she loved her church and her church family. She worked in retail until she retired, having a grocery store in Preston. Upon retirement, she and her husband, J.D., moved to Lanark Village, FL. She was an avid fisherman and there were many great memories of fishing trips shared with family and friends. A great cook, specializing in cakes, she had standing orders on holidays- hummingbird cake was the local favorite. Her greatest talent was making friends and sharing her love for her Lord with others. Entertaining friends and family was a great joy to her. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Debra Adams of Preston; and a daughter, Glenda Lowe of Americus. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Mays; son, Glenn Adams; grandsons, Clay Adams and Dustin Adams; and son-in-law, Bobby Lowe. The family would like to thank Williams Road Church of Christ family, Magnolia Manor, Phoebe-Sumter Hospice, Linda Gaither, Lynn Dlubac, especially granddaughter Dixie Rouse, and nieces Karen Sampson and Beverly Fredrick for the extra care and love you expressed to her. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Stewart-Webster Cancer Fund, 6381 Hamilton St., Preston, GA 31824, or to Raintree Village, 3757 Johnson Rd., Valdosta, GA 31601. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the victory!"
