Evelyn Lucile Johnson September 29, 1935 – July 26, 2025 Evelyn Lucile Johnson, age 89, of Americus, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Wilson Hospice House in Albany. Born in Macon County on September 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Luther Thomas Jones and Evelyn Edna "Rickles" Jones. In 1959, she married James Lewis Johnson and together they made a home in Americus, raising their two children with love, patience, and strength. Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who poured her heart into her family. She enjoyed gardening her flowers, birdwatching, and making her home a joyful place filled with warmth and hospitality. Her smile could light up any room, and her hugs always assured comfort and peace. She loved sincerely and was loved dearly by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church in Americus and lived her life rooted in faith, love, and kindness. Lucile was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lewis Johnson; her parents; her sister, Sara Davidson; and her brothers, David Jones and Jasper Jones. She is survived by her children: Sandra Johnson of Senoia, GA, and James Lewis Johnson Jr. (Lorey) of Arabi, GA; three grandchildren: Ashlea McSwain (Windham) of Hampton VA, Matthew Odom (Olivia) of Gray GA, and Payton Odom (Mistey) of Pitts GA; five great-grandchildren: Zain McSwain, Ethan Odom, Abram Odom, Jackson Odom, and Joe Odom. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Mary Head Johnson and her brother-in-law Duck 'George' Johnson, and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss her. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, July 30, at 12:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cheek Memorial Baptist Church or Willson Hospice House. Lucile's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
