Eugene Wall DeVane, age 81, of 161 Moore Rd., died in Albany at Willson Hospice House, Monday, February 18, 2013. A native of Ellaville, he was born March 9, 1931, the son of the late Henry and Annie Kate DeVane. Mr. DeVane served in the US Marines during the Korean War. He worked as a farmer and an entrepreneur. He was the patriarch of the family by raising his five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rusty Mauldin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the family farm, 161 Moore Rd, Americus, GA. Honorary Pall Bearers include his three grandsons, Kyle, Raymond, and James DeVane and Andy Robbins. Survivors include two sisters, Bernice Hartley and Francis Robbins, both of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Shira MacLennan, Nichole DeVane, Kyle DeVane, Raymond DeVane, and James DeVane; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Mae DeVane; two sons, Raymond and Richard DeVane; and a sister Louise DeVane Kidd.
